Summit Moving & Storage

Summit Moving was founded in October 1956 by Bill Ault. Bill had 3 young kids during WW2, and was working a critical job at Republic Steel. He had a strong desire to be his own boss and starting from about 1945 he was doing part-time moving and driving a moving truck for other firms. After a short stint driving buses for the City of Cleveland, he relocated his family to Akron and started Summit Moving with a small office on West Exchange St. He would answer phones, book a move, then go out and do the move himself! As soon as his sons Charlie and Ritchie were old enough to work they joined in and assisted their father in the family business. Back in the day, they would collect newspapers, re-roll them neatly into rolls and use the material for packing paper!

By 1960 Summit Moving was growing nicely and the business relocated to Kelly Avenue near Goodyear Tire & Rubber and about then Summit Moving became an agent for Republic Van Lines. In the 1970’s son, Charlie Ault became a driving force in the industry and spent a lot of time investing in sales efforts, solidifying relationships with many of the larger Akron-based companies. A key account for Summit Moving was the Girl Scout cookie sales, which Summit Moving handled for over a decade.

After a small fire broke out in their Kelly Avenue facility in 1968 the Ault’s starting looking for a larger facility, settling on some acreage at our current site on East Tallmadge Avenue in Akron. By 1979 Summit Moving opened its new facility, expanding in 1986 and is still in business at this location today.

Summit Moving became an agent for Wheaton Worldwide in 1975 after the founder of Wheaton, Ernie Wheaton knocked on the door and talked to Charlie. Charlie started a long and fruitful relationship with Wheaton, winning Agent of the Year and many sales contests. That relationship continues today, 45 years later!

In April, 2017 Charlie Ault sold Summit Moving to Jim Myers and Brian Booth, who continue to own and operate the company. In June 2018, Summit Moving acquired the assets of the Jerry Vencl Corlett Movers & Storage Company, Inc.

Moving is a stressful and complex process – something you don’t do every day. But we do and we are here to help you every step of the way! With well over 6 decades of experience moving families like yours, we provide free in-home estimates, professionally trained crews, and excellent customer service.

We can move a small apartment around the corner to a large home across the country. We can move a few pieces of furniture or an entire home. Don’t think of us just for moving day, we can help you prepare for the move well in advance, with our packing services, de-cluttering services, and removal services. Let us help you make move day stress-free and successful.

Moving locally We cover daily all of Ohio –including the following counties: Summit, Cuyahoga, Medina, Portage, Lake, Lorain, Stark, Elyria, Sandusky, Trumbull, Mahoning and others. We frequently move families up to 500 miles with our own crews and fleet.

Part of the stress of moving is packing up everything. You may have a china cabinet packed with valued treasures, high value original art, expensive antiques or collectible items. We also sell a full range of packing boxes, tape, moving blankets and other items to prepare for your move. We also carry a limited selection of free used boxes for our customers.

LONG DISTANCE MOVING

Our large professionally trained staff and large fleet of vehicles provide us with the ability to handle most moves up to 500 miles with our own trucks. We can handle moves covering longer distances too. You get all of the care that goes into our local moves, including free in-home estimates, packing services, and specialty services.

Long distance moves are more logistically complex. We recommend contacting us at least 2 months prior to your planned move. It is possible to book a move with as little as a weeks notice, except during the summer rush.

STORAGE

Summit Moving has excellent storage facilities. Two warehouses in Akron totaling over 20,000 sf and more in Cleveland.

Our facilities are clean and well-organized. Our facilities are super-secure, with 24-7 security cameras inside and out. We are ready to store your belongings for as few as a couple days up to several years.

We have highly trained crews that can also take delivery of specialty items, do a complete inspection, store your goods and provide white glove delivery services.

Delivery to our super-secure and clean warehouse

Avoid the hassle of renting a truck and bribing your friends with pizza and beer. Our professional crews will move your items to our warehouse! Of course, you have the option to bring your items yourself. We will assist with unloading the items onto our dock.

Accept your goods into our warehouse

We inspect your goods and prepare a complete inventory of all items that are coming to storage.

Secure your goods in our warehouse vaults

Our professional crews will expertly pad-wrap all furniture and secure your items in our 5’ x 5’ x 7’ wooden vaults. The vaults are then securely sealed and carefully placed in our warehouse. We have 24-7 security camera coverage throughout our facility – inside and outside – with full alarm connections to the police and fire departments.

Access Your Goods

Make an appointment to visit our facility during regular business hours to pick up or add to your stored goods. Warehousing fees will apply.

Deliver Your Goods to the Final Destination

Our expert crews will deliver your goods to their final destination – locally, nationally, or internationally. You can also pick up your goods and our crews will help you load your vehicle. Additional charges will apply.

OFFICE MOVING

Summit Moving has extensive experience moving offices, restaurants, warehouses or manufacturing facilities.

We have moved 1 person home offices, 50 employee law offices, restaurants and bars, commercial kitchens, and manufacturing facilities up to 160,000 square feet. We can set up your moves to occur on weekends or after hours to minimize disruption of your operations.

Our crews have substantial inventory capabilities, packing expertise, and take down and set up expertise. We partner with rigging companies to provide seamless services for large equipment dismantling and moves. We have substantial experience setting up transportation and trucking to move large amounts of goods by means other than our own trucks.

Summit’s warehousing facilities are set up to assist with your move. We can take delivery of your new furniture and fixtures and deliver them to your new location. We can also store the excess items for your convenience.
