1930

Sitterly Movers is founded in Greenfield, MA, by Forrest Sitterly to perform moving services in Franklin County, MA.
1948

Forrest’s son, Roger Sitterly, partners with his father in 1948.
1963

Roger’s son and Sitterly Movers’ current owner, Rod Sitterly, joins the company and assists in expanding its geographic area of service.
1971

Sitterly performs its first library move with the relocation of the University of Massachusetts’ Library in 1971. This move, the first of our 200+ library relocations, required 50 movers for two shifts a day over a period of three weeks.
1972

The success of the UMASS Library move becomes the building block for Sitterly Movers to become one of the primary movers for the many academic institutions of Western and Central Massachusetts, and a catalyst for Rod to expand Sitterly’s services to include museum, office, industrial, and high-value product moving.
1975

Rod orchestrated Roger Sitterly and Son, Inc.’s acquisition of Anderson and Benson, a Springfield moving company with an equally high tradition of quality service dating back to its inception in 1917.
1985

Sitterly Movers is the company entrusted to move the Statue of Liberty’s torch for its national bicentennial tour and subsequent move to its new headquarters.

Q Should I have the mover come to my home to look at my goods?

You have the right to receive an estimate based on a physical (in-house) survey of your
shipment. Under the regulations, your mover must base your estimate (either binding,
non-binding, or not-to-exceed), on a physical survey of the household goods to be moved if
the goods are located with a 50-mile radius of your mover’s (or his agent’s) place of business.
You may elect to waive this requirement for a physical survey, but if you elect to do so,
you must sign a written waiver of your rights.

Q Is it a good idea to get an estimate over the phone or via the Internet?

In all likelihood, you will find that an on-site estimate based on a physical survey
of the items that you plan on moving will be more accurate than an estimate that you
provide to your mover over the telephone or the Internet. So, unless circumstances warrant
(normally due to the time constraints of a short-notice move or because you are only shipping
a few items) think carefully before you elect to waive the required physical survey
of your shipment.
