Schuster is a family owned and operated company based out of Northwest Iowa. Orville Schuster started Schuster Grain in 1956 with one truck hauling grain in and around Sioux City, Iowa. Orville continued to grow and expand services of Schuster Grain to include refrigerated and dry van services. The name was changed to Schuster Co. to reflect the transition.

Schuster was started in 1956 by Orville Schuster with a single truck hauling grain around Sioux City, Iowa. As Schuster grew, Orville expanded the business to include refrigerated and dry van services. The name was changed from Schuster Grain to Schuster Co to reflect the expanding business. Schuster continues to be family owned and operated today.
Schuster features exceptionally well maintained late model equipment, a truck and trailer shop with 10 bays for in house maintenance, an on site wash bay and fuel island, and 465 drivers and owner operators. Our staff also includes 20 dispatchers, 16 back haul and customer support coordinators, and 55 additional shop & office personnel. Orville’s dream to develop Schuster into a premiere shipping company is being realized today as we are a leader in the shipping industry.

Do I need LTL or full truckload?
Great question and something our team of experts can help you determine. LTL is typically ideal for
freight shipments larger than parcel or small package, but short of the space required of a
full truckload shipments. However, other factors like distance and value may play into the decision.
What are the differences between FTL Services and LTL Services?
FTL stands for Full Truckload. A shipment that is over 10,000lb or takes up an entire truck by
itself is considered Full Truckload. One of the main characteristic of an FTL Services is that it
will take your shipment on a long haul, making one trip from point A to Point B without transferring
the cargo.
LTL stands for Less Than Truckload. If you have 200 pounds of freight to transport, you’ve got an LTL
shipment. It takes just a section of the truck and the cargo is safely consolidated with other shipments
that may be picked up and distributed in the same area.
