Our History:

With over 30 years of experience in the dairy industry,we, the owners and employees of Owen Transport Service are proud to say that we love what we do. Our company operates 7 days a week to meet the customers’ needs. Each member of our team will go the extra mile, literally and figuratively, forming family-like relationships with every customer.

At Owen, our humble beginnings started with a father and son team, Mike and Justin Owen. With one employee, one truck, two trailers, and two routes consisting of 18 dairy farms, our vision began July 2008 to provide outstanding service to every customer. A few years and many obstacles later, we at Owen currently employee 50 team members and run over 40 trucks, servicing over 200 dairy farm families in Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Missouri and Ohio. Our goal is to provide an exceptional high level of service. Realizing that a company is only as good as its employees. We attribute our growth and success to our outstanding employees.

Our team has since expanded to hauling water, eggs, whey, fertilizer, poultry byproducts, recycle metals and plastics, as well as other liquid and dry freight.

In order to continue our growth, we added to our management team and upgraded operations technology in 2013. A “state of the art” cloud-based software package has been purchased to efficiently manage parts purchasing and inventory, fleet maintenance, driver and asset management, accounts receivable, and payroll. The summer of 2014 has lead us to the purchase and installation of a top tier Elogs-Dispatch system for our fleet. This now gives us the capibility to monitor our fleet and drivers 24/7. Our future is bright with planned growth and a steady stream of new clients and new business. We are also making plans to purchase land for building a new facility with larger office, shop and truck parking. We are continually adding new technologies, equipment and drivers, in order to exceed current and prospective clients’ needs.

April 2015, we have moved into our new facility at 214 Commerce Dr, Russellville KY. We have also added to our staff and implemented McLeod dispatch software and Orbcomm ELD. This combination allows us to electronically communicate with our drivers and track load progress.

In 2017, we developed our second transportation company, called OTS Logistics. Since then we have been adding more equiptment and drivers to that fleet.

In order to expand our foot print even more, in 2018 We started adding on Owner Operators to our fleet.

We will make every effort to be an environmentally conscious, highly efficient and sustainable company that is equipped to excel in any economic environment by providing dependable, efficient service to all customers. We refuse to be complacent in an ever-changing world. Our team will continue to look at ways of improving our workplace and employee efficiency, while maintaining the high moral standards and professional business ethics that we practice.

Take a moment to browse around the website. You will find links to connect with the many dairy co-ops, processors, and milk buying companies that we service. Let them know how much you love their products and the dairy industry. Whether you drink milk or eat milk based products, most everyone has a connection of some sort to the dairy industry.

From the OTS family to yours, “Drink more milk !”

Q What is a bill of lading?

The bill of lading (BOL) acts as an invoicing receipt in the shipping industry, and with many
motor carriers, the BOL is the contract of carriage between that motor carrier and the shipper.
It includes important information related to the shipment such as addresses, packaging type,
freight class, description of the goods and any special instructions.

Q How do I determine freight class?

There are 18 freight classes. They are determined by weight, dimensions, density, storage capability,
ease of handling, value and liability from instances like theft, damage, breakability and spoilage.
To help you determine freight class, we’ve developed a freight density calculator.
