Our story starts in 1898. That’s when Abraham Morris, a recent immigrant from Russia, opened the doors to Morris Moving & Storage. From his modest office on Third Street in the Lower East Side of Manhattan he began to assist New Yorkers with a challenging, but necessary task: Moving. Of course, things were different back then. For example, trucks hadn’t yet been invented. So when Abraham started moving his first customers, he did so the way it had been done for hundreds of years – by horse and carriage. From these humble beginnings, Abraham Morris grew the company by providing reliable moving and storage services with unsurpassed customer service. The business was soon moving homes and businesses throughout the five boroughs.

In 1935, Abraham’s son Louis joined the family business. Louis carried the business through the Great Depression and into the post-World War II boom years, when customers began to settle in New York’s suburbs. In 1972, after close to 40 years at the helm, Louis passed the torch to his son Stephen. Stephen relocated the business to the northern border of New York City, in Westchester County. Building on the success of the previous two generations, Stephen expanded the Morris brand of professionalism and reliability to families and businesses across the country.

In 2007, Jacob – great-grandson of Abraham and son of Stephen – joined the ranks to bring the family moving tradition into the 21st century. With computers and GPS tracking, the business is now at the forefront of innovation and efficiency. But more importantly, Abraham’s commitment to reliable moving and storage services remains honored every day.

Service Overview
Morris Moving provides premium residential moving and storage services.
We wrap, pack, move, inventory, store, and offer full value protection for personal property, commercial items, valuable furnishings, and artwork for a diverse clientele that includes individual households, businesses, auction houses, galleries, collectors, and interior designers.

Our Values
Morris Moving has been owned and run by an unbroken chain of sons and grandsons since its founding over a 120 years ago. Our values and continued success are grounded in hard work, scrupulous attention to detail, and an effort – both resolute and genuine – to extend the same level of service to our clients as we provide to our own family members.

Residential Home Moving
Our history helping move people’s valuable possessions dates back to 1898. Since then, we have built a client roster that includes, in addition to households and families, chief executives at Fortune 100 companies, notable authors and actors, professional athletes, and senior government officials. Every customer receives the same high standard of care and we are proud to maintain decades-long relationships with many of our clients. Over 90% of our business comes from repeat customers and their word-of-mouth recommendations to friends and family.

We endeavor to make the moving process seamless and stress-free. Our deep experience and extensive resources enable us to execute end-to-end full service moves. From packing and protecting valuables, to moving, storage, unpacking, and placement, we take full responsibility for guaranteeing the security and integrity of our clients’ possessions.

Although the majority of our moves originate or terminate in the greater Tri-State New York area, we also frequently carry out moves throughout the United States as well as to locations overseas.

Planning
Attention to detail is the sine qua non of a successful, stress-free move. No detail, however small, is taken for granted during any stage of the process.
Pre-Move Consultation
Our staff consults with clients through phone conversations and on-site visits to ensure full and proper preparation. We take careful inventory of items, making special note of fragile and sentimental items that require special handling. For moves involving apartments or communities with governing rules, we consult with management to obtain access rules, restricted times, and regulations concerning protection of elevator interiors and common areas. Through continual client communication and the capture of all applicable information, we devise a comprehensive move plan. When needed, we integrate trusted partners for any specialist tasks or work with specific licensure requirements (e.g., electricians to uninstall chandeliers and light fixtures; carpenters to remove builtin furniture). The plan incorporates packing and unpacking options as well as any additional services or special client requirements.

Coordination Phase
After the plan has been developed, the coordination phase begins. At this stage, more granular detail is reached regarding packing and unpacking; required materials, including specialized packing cases and crates; crew information; and, if needed, storage options. We provide clients with any certificate of insurance required by building management.
We maintain continual communication in the days leading up to the move to ensure everything remains on track. On the day of the move, our team, led by an experienced foreman, will have received and studied the move plan so they arrive with a full understanding of the move requirements and client specifications. Altogether, the deliberate and careful preparation that goes into the planning and coordination phases helps to ensure successful, incident-free moves.

Packing and Unpacking
Client possessions are handled throughout the move process by highly experienced, professional teams. In an industry marked by high turnover, we are proud of the long tenure of our employees, A typical 5-man crew brings over 70 years of collective experience at Morris Moving to the job. When packing pieces of china, for example, they do so undergirded by the knowledge that comes from having carried out the same task hundreds of times before. Articles are wrapped and packed with great care – drawing on practices developed and honed over the generations of our firm’s existence – while paying attention to the particular physical details attendant to each item.

Clients can select from a number of packing and unpacking service options.

Packing
Full Packing Service for All Items
This is our most far-reaching packing service, which entails packing, wrapping, and crating of all moveable household items.

Packing of Fragile Items
Only In this option, we only pack fragile items and any large or unwieldy items which the client does not feel comfortable packing themselves. We additionally handle wrapping of furniture. Meanwhile, the client attends to packing non-fragile items such as books.

Self-Packing
With self-packing, the client packs all items prior to our arrival, including both fragile and non-fragile items. With this option we still handle wrapping of furniture.

Unpacking
Full Unpack and Placement
This is our highest level of unpacking service. We take full responsibility for unpacking, unwrapping, and setting-up the entire contents of a home. With client guidance, a plan is devised for the disposition of the contents of every carton and every piece of furniture in the new home. Items are placed inside cabinets and drawers. Our team ensures that everything is placed according to the defined specifications.

Full Unpack
Onto Flat Surfaces In this option, all items are unpacked and placed onto flat surfaces, but not put away inside drawers or cabinets. Kitchen items are put on top of kitchen counters. China is placed on the dining room table and sideboard. Bedding and clothing is perched on top of beds and hanging clothes are removed from wardrobe cartons and put into closets. In addition, all furniture is unwrapped and placed in the desired locations.

Fragile Unpack
We unpack fragile items only, placing these on flat surfaces, or otherwise, as directed. Furniture is also unwrapped and positioned as instructed.

Self Unpack
Under this service option, we place cartons in the designated rooms but the client assumes responsibility for the unpacking of contents. Otherwise, our role is limited to unwrapping and positioning of furniture.

In all cases except for self unpack we clear away all discarded packing materials. The above options represent generalized schema; a custom plan that borrows elements of each can easily be devised.

Specialized Moving Services
We offer a variety of specialized services, including:

Fabrication of custom-made packing materials and crates
Accomodation of time-sensitive moves
Packing and transport of unwieldy or heavy items
Pickup/delivery at difficult to access sites
Handling of fine art, antiques, scientific apparatuses, and high-tech equipment
Working with specialized third-party installation firms in niche fields at the “last meter”
Here is more detailed information on some of these services:

Crating and Carton Service
Drawing on over a century of experience, we provide a range of custom carton and crating options, from simple travel frames to museum-grade packing crates to ensure that valuable artwork, musical instruments, and furniture can be moved, stored, and installed without incident in secured conditions.

Hoisting
We arrange for unwieldy or heavy items to be hoisted when necessitated by site constraints.

Piano Moving
We have a wealth of experience executing piano moves, including grand pianos and vintage instruments. Our teams are familiar with the specific challenges of piano moving and the specialized techniques required for their preparation, packing, and transport. Our movers have cut their teeth in the narrow hallways of Manhattan walk-ups and are able to adapt and improvise within the constraints imposed by difficult-to-access sites.

Move Organizers
We can refer customers to professional move organizers, who work alongside our team leaders to coordinate the finer details of setting up a new home. Move organizers handle tasks such as devising storage solutions in a new home and unpacking kitchen items in an elegant and orderly fashion. The end result is a new home presented in move-in condition according to a client’s taste and specifications. Clients are able to depart their former property the day before a move relaxed in the knowledge they will be able to enter their new home with everything in its right place, without a box in sight.

Interior Designers
We also work with leading interior designers by consolidating shipments of furniture, appliances, and materials, and facilitating on-site installation of their designs.

Q How is the cost of my shipment calculated?

If you are moving to a different state, the charges will be based on the weight of your
shipment and mileage—these are referred to as the transportation charges.
There are a variety of different moving charges that can potentially appear on your estimate,
so be sure to ask your relocation specialist to explain each charge for you.
Some additional charges that may appear include packing, crating, valuation or coverage,
bulky article charge (for oversized items), and extra labor. Again, please be certain you
fully understand these charges so that you can accurately compare the estimates you receive.

Q What is an order for service?

All movers are required to prepare an order for service before they transport your shipment.
The order for service provides you with written confirmation of the moving services that you
requested to be performed in conjunction with your shipment. It also lists the agreed upon
dates for the pickup and delivery of your shipment and amount of valuation that you requested,
along with any special services that you ordered.
It also features a place and telephone number where the mover can contact you during the move.

Additionally, the order for service shows the charges that you will be assessed for your
household move or corporate relocation. If you are moving under a non-binding estimate,
the order for service will indicate the amount of the estimated non-binding charges,
the method of payment for the charges and, in cases where the actual charges exceed the
non-binding estimate, the maximum amount that you are required to pay at the time of delivery
in order to obtain possession of your shipment (you will have 30 days following delivery to
pay the balance of the charges due). If you are moving under a binding estimate,
the order for service will show the charges that you will be required to pay at delivery,
based on the binding estimate and the terms of payment. You and your mover must sign the
order for service.
