HISTORY
Owner J.P. McLane, like his dad and granddad, was born and raised in the cattle business. Once he started buying trucks to haul feeder cattle, his fleet of ten cattle trucks grew over the years to 24.

In July 1974, McLane Livestock Transport, Inc. opened their doors in the city of Poplar Bluff, MO. That same year, due to the decline in the cattle business, J.P. began buying refrigerated trailers and hauling produce from the west coast. Now, nearly forty years later, they transport furniture, heating and air conditioning units, dairy products and expansion joints for bridges and roadways to the west coast. For the return trips, they then haul a variety of produce, primarily from California, Washington and Oregon.McLane employs 65, has 46 trucks, 100 trailers and four owner-operator trucks.

As the business has grown, so has the family, and McLane likes to think of all of their employees as family. With stringent safety guidelines and attention to taking care of their own, McLane continues to build on a reputation of quality trucking.

Q Do I need LTL or full truckload?

Great question and something our team of experts can help you determine. LTL is typically ideal for
freight shipments larger than parcel or small package, but short of the space required of a
full truckload shipments. However, other factors like distance and value may play into the decision.

Q What are the differences between FTL Services and LTL Services?

FTL stands for Full Truckload. A shipment that is over 10,000lb or takes up an entire truck by
itself is considered Full Truckload. One of the main characteristic of an FTL Services is that it
will take your shipment on a long haul, making one trip from point A to Point B without transferring
the cargo.

LTL stands for Less Than Truckload. If you have 200 pounds of freight to transport, you’ve got an LTL
shipment. It takes just a section of the truck and the cargo is safely consolidated with other shipments
that may be picked up and distributed in the same area.
