Farnell Freight Forwarders was founded and licensed by the Federal Maritime Commission in 1999 by Vann Farnell Keefe out of her home. By providing outstanding customer service, she was able to grow Farnell Freight into what it is today.
Strategically located on the port district within 3 miles of interstate highways I-95 and I-10, our 30,000 + sq-ft warehouse facility gives us the flexibility to meet your needs.
Our team of 6 employees have over 100 years in the transportation industry and over 50 years in the Bermuda market. Our office and warehouse facilities are at the same location which allows us to be literally “hands-on”. You will never receive any excuses that we do not know where your cargo is.
Our yard is large enough to accommodate over 15 container chassis and we have a truck that can be used to spot containers to our loading docks.
We have two new forklifts with weight capacity of 4,500 complete with forklift extensions, barrel clamp, carpet pole, trailer hitch fork and drywall forks, in addition to a fleet of dollies and pallet jacks.
Farnell Freight offers a full range of services – please call us and find out how we can help with your shipping needs.
FTL (Full-Trailer Load)
Full trailer loads are advantageous for moving larger volume shipments. These can typically range from 10,000 – 40,000 lbs shipments. Alternatively, cargo that is lighter but very large can benefit from these trailers. These are also known in the industry as dedicated loads.
Many times, we utilize these services in lieu of intermodal containers. There can be a cost savings, however they need to be enough to off-set our loading charges and the cost to deliver the container to the port. To make it worthwhile, these moves are generally reserved for shipments originating in the Miami area or outside of the state of Florida. Due to the nature of these types of truck moves, prices vary based on supply and demand so while one week we may opt to ship as FTL and the next intermodal. We price check the best way to move your freight from a cost effective standpoint.
LTL (Less-than Trailer Load)
We enjoy contract rates with the major regional and national LTL carriers for moving palletized loads. These loads do not have to be palletized, but we strongly recommend it to avoid cargo damage. These types of moves are best suited for cargo ranging in weight from 100 – 10,000 lbs but depending on the distance, it may be best to ship FTL.
LTL rates are based on weight, distance, size of cargo and class codes. These class codes can be tricky so if you are unsure what your freight’s class code is, please contact us.
Flatbed
Flatbed trucking is used for cargo that needs to be loaded from the side of the truck. Sometimes it can be the cargo is too long for a dry van or it could be a limitation by the shipper’s facility. These moves are mostly reserved for building materials and heavy machinery.
Other trailers in the flatbed/heavy haul category include step-decks and RGNs which are used for very tall cargo or cargo that must be rolled/driven onto the trailer.
Air Freight Services
Farnell Freight Forwarders, Inc. is a TSA approved Indirect Air Carrier (IAC). We have a fully secure warehouse and staff that trains on an annual basis to prevent acts or terrorism and to stay in compliance. This approval allows us to book cargo not only on cargo planes but also the highly sought passenger airlines.
Air freight is more expensive than ocean freight, but the time savings can be worth every penny.
Hand Delivered
For the most time-sensitive cargo, hand delivery is the fastest method for shipping cargo overseas. It is also quite expensive.
We have and will put an employee on the next flight out to make hand deliver your cargo. Our only limitation is booking the next available flight, so if you have notice, advise us ASAP.
Passenger Airlines
We ship regular cargo on passenger airlines. We have aggressive rates with two of the largest airlines in the world and have facilitated complex shipments over many years. We ship freight guaranteed which has a next day transit (internationally) if space is available. This is the fastest method for air cargo shipments.
There are size/weight limitations and certain commodities are forbidden. Jacksonville Airport is not a DG classified airport. Shippers must be “known shippers” with the TSA. We are authorized to make companies known shippers, if required.
Cargo Planes
Cargo planes are your best method for shipping bulky, time sensitive cargo. If your final destination is Bermuda, the only cargo plane that services the island flies out of Newark, NJ. We can and do facilitate air freight shipments routing through New Jersey, however you need to take into account the transportation from the cargo origin to the airport which can sometimes add days to the transit.
International Ocean Freight Services
Farnell Freight Forwarders, Inc. is a fully licensed NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) and ocean freight forwarder providing services focused on the Bermuda market. However, as part of a full service company serving Bermuda, we do offer ocean transportation services around the globe. We maintain a network of companies that allow us to provide the most cost effective and efficient handling of your shipments.
Contact your move coordinator as soon as you can if your move dates have changed.
He/she can process any changes to your plan and discuss updates; keep in mind your estimate
may change depending on the dates you selected.
This is one of the most frequently asked moving questions. Often you don’t know when exactly
you will move and thus you can’t schedule your move in advance. It is best though if you can
start contacting movers at least a month in advance. The earlier the better because then you
will have the time to research the moving companies and schedule your move for the desired
day.
