The Bishop family history in the moving and storage industry dates back to the early 1900’s in Bluefield, WV when O. H. Bishop (Jim Bishop, Jr’s grandfather) bought his first truck.O. H. Bishop’s two sons (O. H., Jr. & Jim, Sr.) both worked for their father’s company throughout the early 1900’s. Eventually both brothers moved to Maryland to start their own moving companies. Jim, Sr. started his company, “Safeway Moving & Storage”, in Baltimore in 1950. Jim, Jr. worked for his father’s company (alongside his brothers) until setting out on his own in the early 1970’s to create Eastern Moving & Storage Company.
In April of 1979 Eastern Moving & Storage Company was incorporated in Baltimore, Maryland by Jim Bishop, Jr. Its first location, on Pulaski Highway just north of the beltway, remains its primary location today.

In 2001, Eastern Moving expanded its operations by purchasing BelAir Moving & Storage Company in Joppa, MD. Eastern now owns over 200,000 square feet of office and warehouse space in multiple locations throughout Baltimore County. Today Eastern is owned and operated by Jim Bishop, Jr. and Jim Bishop, III. We take great pride in carrying on the family tradition of excellence in the moving and storage industry.

Our warehouse is U.S. Military and GSA approved, which means we must adhere to a strict set of guidelines and undergo numerous routine inspections.

In addition to our warehouse storage we offer personal storage garages and insulated storage trailers. The personal storage garages are ideal if you need 24 hour access to your items.

For those who have a short waiting period prior to gaining access to their new home, our storage trailers are the ideal option for short term storage needs. Eastern is among the few moving companies with a large enough fleet of trailers to offer this type of storage. One of the advantages of this type of storage is that it cuts the costs of handling your furniture in half. We simply load your goods at origin into the trailer, store them on our secure lot, and then deliver them to your new residence.

Additionally, outdoor storage space is available for car, truck, boat and RV storage.

Eastern provides office moving services for companies of all sizes. We offer our services 24/7. (Even on holidays!) Our flexibility in scheduling allows you to minimize your company’s down time.

Through multiple site visits by our estimators, supervisors and crew leaders prior to your move, we will effectively gauge the size of your move and discuss how best to plan for and execute your relocation. We utilize the appropriate tools and equipment such as file carts, computer carts, and commercial bins, enabling us to complete the job as efficiently as possible.

In addition to our office moving services we can assist with debris removal and complete cleaning of your former office space after the move is completed.
