We’re here for the long haul.
From a single truckload of potatoes in the 1950s to a fleet of thousands, Day & Ross has grown to become one of the largest transportation companies in Canada. With more than 7,500 employees, drivers, and owner operators, we’re a major player in cross-border and LTL/TL transportation, offering a diversified portfolio of transport and logistics solutions across North America. Our commitment to safety and sustainability is rooted in the family values we share with our parent company, McCain Foods Limited.
We’ve been around for 70 years because we believe some principles just can’t be compromised. Call us traditional, but we treat your stuff like it’s our own.
So whether we’re delivering precious cargo – like that sold-out shipment of holiday gifts — or a sense of stability for our own team and their families, we’re here for the long haul. It’s tradition.
Our humble beginnings.
In 1950, Elbert Day and Walter Ross founded Day & Ross in Hartland, New Brunswick with just one truck to their name. Their first shipment was a load of spuds hauled from New Brunswick to Quebec — a humble beginning, but no small potatoes. In 1966, Day & Ross became a wholly owned subsidiary of McCain Foods Limited and since then we’ve expanded across North America through growth and acquisitions, including Sameday Worldwide in 1992, REI in 2017, Stonehammer Transport Inc. in 2018, and A&S Kinard and Buckler Transport in 2019. R+L Carriers has been our trusted LTL/TL partner in the USA since 2007, further expanding our coverage and access.
We’ve got you covered.
We’ve built a reputation for on-time shipping service, total coverage, and customer satisfaction. We offer industry-leading Less-than-truckload (LTL), Truckload (TL), and temperature controlled services — including a high percentage of reefer units and ‘protect from freezing’ heater-equipped trailers. We also provide a full range of logistics solutions, dedicated fleets, and last mile and home delivery services. Whether you’re shipping a couch to an online customer or importing goods from across the world, we’ve got you covered. Learn more about our services:

Then you likely need a flatbed solution. Our specially trained drivers and experienced operations staff can make all the difference in your flatbed move. Trust us with your heavy haul and oversized freight, including building materials, heavy machinery, oil & gas equipment, telecommunications towers, construction pipeline, mining equipment or fibre optic cables. Benefit from power tailgate service, competitive pricing via Can-Am 505 tariff and customs expertise, and full compliance with national security legislation.
Temperature Controlled
Our specially equipped trailers allow proper airflow and even temperature to help protect your temperature-sensitive shipments as they are delivered to their destination. Our knowledgeable team offers leading expertise in perishable and frozen commodities transportation. If you have LTL cargo that may be affected by below-freezing temperatures in winter, choose our Protect from Freeze Service. Contact us for more information.
Dangerous Goods
We are fully equipped to manage just about any dangerous goods requirements you have while fully complying with all laws, codes and industry standards. Our experience in transporting and safely handling hazardous materials and dangerous goods shipments positions us as a leader in the industry. Shippers who transport dangerous goods (DG) must follow the Transport Canada Regulations by ensuring they provide the appropriate shipping documents and complete a proper declaration of any dangerous good product.
Local (intrastate) moves are generally based on a per-hour cost for the personnel and
the number of vehicles that the mover provides (up to a certain distance, with longer
distances based on the weight of your shipment and the mileage it is transported) and the
level of liability that the mover will cover in the event of loss or damage is generally
less than would apply for an interstate move.
Once you have compiled a list of movers, inform them of the destination and timing of your
move. Ask them about the types of services they offer. Also ask them to explain their
estimates in detail and to give you a copy. If any company refuses to give you a written
estimate, you should eliminate them from consideration. Then carefully compare to see which
mover best suits your needs and budget.
The cost of your move will be based on the actual weight of your belongings and the distance
they are shipped, plus the amount of packing and other services that you require.
To help you anticipate the cost of your move, movers will give you an estimate of the price.
Be sure to get written estimates from at least 3 different movers so that you can compare
their services and prices.
