Our professional drivers come from a wide range of backgrounds consisting of trainers, farriers, professional competitive riders, grooms, horse farm managers, yearling managers, broodmare managers and professional horse haulers that have worked for other companies or owned their own. All have extensive horse experience prior to their employment as a horse transporter with Brook Ledge. Most are current or past horse owners and many are second and third generation horse people—the horse is in their blood. We have 30 lead drivers currently employed with us-their average length of employment with Brook Ledge is 13 years. Some of our drivers have two family generations working at Brook Ledge. We are incredibly proud to present our customers with lifelong horsemen and women to ship and care for their horses.

Brook Ledge Inc. is now one of the largest Horse Transportation companies in North America. Layover Facility
Brook Ledge offers high quality layover facilities for your horse, if a layover is necessary. Layover facilities are located directly on the Brook Ledge farms and are owned by the company, each location is gated and locked at night. You can rest easy knowing where your horse is and who is taking care of them. When a horse comes to one of our layovers, they go into a freshly bedded, clean stall with hay and water. Many times the layover is only for a few hours. Most coast to coast trips will include a layover at our Lexington Facility. We have layover facilities in Oley, PA; Lexington, KY; Ocala, FL and Summerton, SC. Please ask if your horse’s route will include a layover. All four locations have loading chutes. Brook Ledge is proud to always have “horse people” taking care of the horses as if they were their own. Our facilities are NOT open to the public so you can rest assured that any horse staying at one of our farms is healthy and fit for travel.
In addition to taking good care of your horse, we at Brook Ledge are concerned that your horse travel in the optimum stall space to reduce stress during the trip. Although we supply the standard stall alternatives (stall and a 1/2 or box stall), we urge our customers to consider the box stall option. Industry research and articles have noted the health advantages of box stalls for transporting horses. Horses shipped in box stalls arrive fresher and are less inclined to have any health issues related to shipping. Most of the top stables and trainers ship their horses in box stalls. Their experience has shown them that even though the initial expense is higher, the actual cost is lower due to virtually no sickness or ‘down time’. For all trips across the country we only utilize box stalls.
If you are receiving a non-binding estimate, the charges that your mover assesses on your
shipment must be based on the actual weight of the shipment. Your mover may not lawfully
assess transportation charges on shipments with non-binding estimates on cubic feet, volume,
time (hourly) or on any basis other than weight. Also, the federal regulations require that
shipment weights must be determined on a state certified scale with a copy of the weigh
master’s tickets provided to you in support of the final invoice.
The busiest times for moving companies are typically during the summer months, May-September.
If you are planning a move during that time you should make arrangements early.
Friday and Saturdays are big moving days so if you have flexibility in your schedule it can
be easier to get a date during the week rather than a weekend.
