Bookstore Movers was founded in DC by Matt Wixon in 2005. After stumbling upon Capitol Hill Books in the city’s Eastern Market neighborhood, he immediately fell in love with the bookstore, and started working there as a shelver. Shortly thereafter, Matt created Bookstore Movers along with some friends and coworkers at the store with the aim to save enough to someday purchase the bookstore, thereby protecting the ceiling-high book stacks and the community surrounding this neighborhood institution. Along with several friends, Matt did finally realize the dream of purchasing the bookstore in July 2018.
Matt started Bookstore Movers to provide a unique moving experience in the Washington DC area, wherein each crew is professionally trained, customer-oriented, with kind and detailed attention to each individual move, and personalized care for each and every client. As a team, we focus on the move at hand and operate with integrity and kindness.

Our crews here rise before the sun each day and work until each move is complete to each client’s preferences. We conduct intensive training upon hiring so we can provide the most professional, efficient, and careful crews to your move. Although growing, Bookstore Movers is an organization with small business values, a friends and family business. We strive to provide a smooth and stress-free move for each and every client and take the utmost care of your items as if they were our own. We offer assistance with a wide range of residential moving needs from small single room and studio moves, all the way up to moves for large homes with 4+ bedrooms. And of course all the 1, 2 & 3 bedroom apartments and houses in between!
Our full service moves include an appropriately sized truck and crew size for your needs and we provide these helpful recommendations as part of our moving estimate. Our movers bring all the necessary equipment such as moving pads, handtrucks and dollies, and upon request can bring any extra materials you may need to have us carefully transport your belongings such as wardrobe boxes or plastic shrink wrap.
Residential moves include loading your inventory at the starting location, safely driving the truck to the destination and then unloading your inventory at that final location. Since some moves require an extra stop, we do our best to accommodate these circumstances for customers whenever we can. We also include basic wrapping of furniture, but letting us know what you have in mind in advance helps us to plan for the extra time needed to handle special tasks like furniture dis/reassembly, handling delicate or antique pieces, or extra large items such as a refrigerator or exercise equipment.

Need help moving something other than your residence? We can help with business moves as well.Sometimes this involves moving just a few items, or it could be a full office location. We’ve done it all!
Fill out our estimate form with all the details of your move to get started. We will then be in touch to set up a site visit appointment where a manager comes out to your location to assess the full scope of your job, so our admin team can then provide you with a written quote and our availability.
Bookstore Movers offers a full-service, all-in one storage option where we provide your move into our storage facility and your move out as well.
Storage with Bookstore Movers does not require you to be present at the storage facility. If you hire us, we’ll schedule a date for your move and we’ll carefully prep your items and transport everything to our secure facility. Once we leave your place, we’ll take it from there.
Items of extraordinary value such as jewelry, money, antiques, and stamp collections
can be included in your shipment, provided that you notify your local moving representative
of these items before packing and moving day. It is strongly recommended that you carry
irreplaceable and expensive articles with you, or make alternate arrangements for their
transport.
In the moving industry, items worth more than $100 per pound are considered to be articles
of "extraordinary value.” To be assured that a claim involving these articles is not limited
to minimal liability, complete and sign your mover's high-value inventory form.
Also, be sure to sign the "Extraordinary Value Article Declaration" box, if applicable, on
your Bill of Lading.
Each mover has a slightly different procedure to follow as it relates to high-value items.
Ask your relocation specialist to provide you with an explanation of their company's process.
This is a confusing (but important) task, so be sure that you clearly understand the rules
prior to load day.
All loose items must be packed in boxes to prevent loss or damage while moving. It is
recommended that you pack all items and leave the drawers empty.
