Adamantine Spine Moving

It all started back in 2002 with a gift. Mark Peters, philanthropist and software programmer, gave Eric Jones the moving business he’d founded but no longer had time to run: Adamantine Spine Moving. (Peters wanted the name of his moving company to be clever and to come first in the phone book: check and check.)

Eric had just finished his MFA in Nonfiction Writing at the University of Iowa and, after spending three years exploring his thoughts and feelings on paper, he was ready to light out for the territories as a household mover. He took a job as a Nursing Assistant on the Burn Unit at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to pay the bills, returned missed moving calls during lunch breaks, and moved local families on days off and week-ends while the business slowly grew.

Boxes & Supplies
Corrugated cardboard is a miraculous invention. It’s just a paper sandwich creatively constructed to be both light and rigid. Almost any box will work in a pinch (hello apple boxes), but we’ve got the perfect collection of specialized moving boxes to keep all your possessions safe and sound, from that gilt-framed mirror to the closet full of just-pressed suits. We’re happy to provide you with recycled boxes or new at your request.

Donations
What’s even better than recycling? Reuse! Remodeling a kitchen or bathroom and don’t know what to do with those perfectly good cabinets? Or maybe you’ve updated your washer and dryer but the old set is still going strong? If you’d like to donate your household furniture or durable goods, we stand by your decision 100%. Our team members will be there when you need them, ready to help facilitate your green donation

Art & Antique Crating and Moving
Art collections, we’ve known a few. The wonderful, and challenging thing, about art is that each piece is a one-of-kind creation with unique packing, crating, and transportation challenges. A sculpture can be a 700 pound granite behemoth – one kind of packing and moving challenge – or a hand-blown glass star the weight of a hummingbird. We haven’t seen it all, of course, but we’ve seen a lot. And we’re ready to treat your one-of-a-kind collection with the professional care it deserves.
