In 1972 Lou and Jean Klause seized an opportunity to start a moving company in Jupiter, Florida. They knew they wanted to start a company that would make their family proud; a company that was built to last. Tom Klause, President of A-1 Moving & Storage since 1986, remembers his father acting odd one morning during his freshmen year of high school.

“He wanted to drive me to school. I thought, ‘that’s weird. He never does that.’ In the car that morning Lou said ‘Tom, I’m starting a moving company, but only if one day you will take over the company,” explains Tom.

Tom has never looked back. His father mentored him in every part of the business, beginning with unloading their first moving a truck–a 1967 Dodge milk truck. After school, Tom helped his dad pack and unpack the truck. When it was time to choose between going to college and working side-by-side with his father, it was an easy decision. After two years at Palm Beach Junior College, Tom told his father, “Don’t send me to Gainesville. I know what I want to do.”

Tom has grown A-1 Moving & Storage into a financially successful, value-driven company. From a small, one truck operation with a tiny garage A-1 Moving & Storage has now grown into a 45,000 square foot fully air-conditioned, state-of-the-art facility with multiple trucks of all sizes. But Tom takes little ownership of the company’s success.

“It’s not me. I have a great supporting cast. They go out of their way to treat everyone with respect and dignity,” he says.

Tom has not only built a professional company, but also a team of moving experts. Most of the A-1 Team has worked together for over ten years and all have a background in moving and storage services. Katie Klause-Newitt, Tom’s sister and Vice President of A-1, joined the company in 1985 with her husband Andy Newitt starting with the team in 2000. Tom’s son, Eric Klause, works as a Professional Van Operator for A-1. In 2016, Lee Franc, Tom’s other sister rejoined the family business in Customer Service. Although unrelated by blood, the other A-1 employees feel like family too.

A-1 is a family company led by values: Excellence, Professionalism, and Integrity. Tom knows his father Louis founded the company on these principles, simply because they were who he was. Today, these are the principles which define A-1.

Customizing Your Move:
The process begins by giving us a call or filling out the contact form so that either Cindy or Nancy, our Customer Service Representatives, can get to know you and understand your specific moving details. Cindy or Nancy will then work with you to set up our free, pre-move estimate at your location with one of our team members.

Our Pre-Move Estimate:
One of our experienced team members will come to your home or office to better understand the details of the move and provide you with a customized, in-person estimate. They will ask you questions about your moving requirements, which belongings need special care and recommend ways to best protect your fragile items during the move.

Throughout the years, we have found that these planning steps help you prepare as you transition and pack. It also gives our team a better idea of the size truck necessary for you move and the types of tools we need to bring on moving day. Plus, our free, pre-move estimate eliminates unforeseen costs and provides an honest quote—a quote we only give once. On Move Day:
Our experienced crews—many of them have been part of the A-1 Family for 10 or more years—take great care in the handling, packing and delivering of your belongings. They can pick up items from multiple locations, put things in storage for a few days and bring them to you when you’re ready. They also install and assemble things like furniture and light fixtures. Our crews work hard to make your moving day easy!

Our Residential Moving Services May Include:

Free, On-Location, Pre-Move Estimate: It’s our way of getting to know your unique needs so that we can provide you with an accurate and honest price.
Packing: Don’t have the time to pack? Our team always packs carefully and efficiently. We offer high quality blanket wraps, stretch wrapping, padding, boxes and crating for your most valuable possessions.
Boxes: The boxes we offer are especially designed to withstand weight, stacking and any shifting during the delivery. We also offer extra-large boxes for items like sporting goods and garage items. We can drop off boxes to you ahead of time or bring them with us on the day of the move.
Specialty Items: Own a baby-grand piano, grandfather clock or an ornate mirror? No problem! Our team knows exactly how to pack, handle, secure and deliver heavy and fragile pieces.
Same-day Delivery: For moves within the greater, Palm Beach County region.
Multiple Pick-Ups: If your items are in different locations, we are happy to arrange multiple stops.
Climate-Controlled Vans: If you need specialized transportation of your valuable pieces, we can make arrangements with our Atlas line team to protect your belongings from humidity and extreme heat using special climate-controlled trailers.
Installation and Assembly: Anything we take apart for the move, beds, entertainment centers, armoires, etc., we put back together again at destination.

A-1 Commercial Services is located in Jupiter, Florida with easy access from I-95 and The Florida Turnpike. Our 24,250 sq. ft. warehouse includes loading docks and ramps, which enables us to accept any type of delivery no matter how big or small. A1CSs has on-site forklifts so we can handle anything from a trailer full of pallets to a single heavy or awkward shaped boxes from another carrier.
