About Mesilla Valley Transportation
We are Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT), the safest, and most professional transportation company in the Southwest. Our founders Royal Jones and Jimmy Ray were the first truck drivers at Mesilla Valley Transportation. In the late ’80s, MVT went through a controlled growth and began servicing the 48 states and Canada, and was rapidly recognized as the leader in quality service and on-time delivery. We are currently the largest, privately-owned transportation fleet in the United States.
Regional History
The village of Mesilla, now called Old Mesilla, stands south of Downtown Las Cruces, NM. This Wild Western town dates back to the early 1800’s. Fort Fillmore was located here in 1851. The village of Mesilla was a well-known supply center for garrisoned troops, and it earned quite a reputation for providing entertainment, food, hay and building materials to the area.
Mesilla became part of the United States through the Gadsden Purchase from Mexico in 1854. During the Civil War, the flourishing community of Mesilla was known as being a commercial and transportation center. Mesilla aided in outfitting the profitable mining and ranching industries in the early days of the region. A great number of passengers passed through this important transportation link during their dangerous travels to points west.
In the 21st Century, local residents still celebrate their colorful past. We are proud of our heritage and our role in the transportation industry.
The bill of lading (BOL) acts as an invoicing receipt in the shipping industry, and with many
motor carriers, the BOL is the contract of carriage between that motor carrier and the shipper.
It includes important information related to the shipment such as addresses, packaging type,
freight class, description of the goods and any special instructions.
There are 18 freight classes. They are determined by weight, dimensions, density, storage capability,
ease of handling, value and liability from instances like theft, damage, breakability and spoilage.
To help you determine freight class, we’ve developed a freight density calculator.
