More about Reefer Trucking
In today’s highly connected society, a wide array of consumer products from computers to car parts are routinely transported across the country by tractor-trailers. Given the country’s growing population, it should come as no surprise that one of the main categories of products being transported is food. Often, though, food products require special considerations during transport such as refrigeration or freezing.
That’s where refrigerated trucks come in. Also known within the trucking industry as reefer units, reefer trucks, or simply reefers, these specialized heavy-duty trucks allow food to be transported all the way across the country without the threat of spoilage.
It’s important for those who are interested in driving these specialized trucks to understand that transporting perishable foods comes with a good deal of extra responsibility. Whether readers are already working within the transportation field and want to take their trucking experience to the next level or they’re interested in learning more about making the switch to trucking from another field, they can find the information they need to get started below.

The Challenges And Benefits Of Flatbed Trucking
Flatbed trucking is a transportation service designed to carry oversized items on a flat, open bed. The service is ideal for items that can’t be easily loaded into a van, like long pipes, vehicles, or large machines, and customers choose flatbed trucking for its versatility in accommodating all kinds of loads. Drivers of flatbed trucks generally get a higher rate of pay than other types of truckers because of the skills they need to develop to keep their loads properly secure. Flatbed trucking is a challenging but often rewarding career that benefits the customer as well as the driver.
The bill of lading (BOL) acts as an invoicing receipt in the shipping industry, and with many
motor carriers, the BOL is the contract of carriage between that motor carrier and the shipper.
It includes important information related to the shipment such as addresses, packaging type,
freight class, description of the goods and any special instructions.
There are 18 freight classes. They are determined by weight, dimensions, density, storage capability,
ease of handling, value and liability from instances like theft, damage, breakability and spoilage.
To help you determine freight class, we’ve developed a freight density calculator.
