Tired of getting the run around from other brokers? Imagine a company that actually gives you real market pricing, charges a FLAT fee, and has an incentive to get YOU the best truck at the BEST price. What a concept right?
How it works
The auto transport industry is wildly misunderstood, misrepresented, manipulative, and confusing. Quotes, estimates, and guarantees, who could even make sense of it all? Let us briefly explain. Virtually every car in the U.S. is shipped on the same platform, that being Central Dispatch. It currently is the mecca of car hauling. So, when you go online and look for car hauling companies, you may assume that the companies that you are speaking with are the one’s actually employing drivers, and operating trucks. That would be a reasonable assumption, but unfortunately it is completely inaccurate. Probably something like 99% of company websites you will end up on own no trucks, and employ no drivers. They are simply trying to connect you to truck drivers, via an online load board, and they will charge you a fee for doing so. Sometimes that fee can be as high as 50% of the quote. The incentive of every auto broker in the industry, is to first, lock you in as a customer with unrealistic guarantees and prices, then post your load online for a fraction of what they quoted you, and finally to maximize profit while dispatching your car to anyone who meets minimal trucking standards. The industry model leads to endless empty promises, bogus guarantees, crazy unrealistic quotes, customers moving without their cars, damages, late cancellations from drivers, no shows, and many, many, other negative outcomes for the consumer.
How we do it differently
We Charge flat fees for our services, and you can look at our pricing structure here. Why does this matter you ask ? It matters because most brokers will never tell you what they are actually charging you. They may give you a quote for $1000, but then attempt to move your car at $500. This type of tactic is incredibly common. It often leads to much longer pickup times, since the broker is trying to move your car at a rate well below what you agreed you were willing to pay. If the rate they post the load for, is not in line with current market rates, the car simply will not move. This is why it is not uncommon for consumers to be waiting multiple weeks to move a car. Furthermore, if it does get picked up, it is often picked up by trucking outfits who simply meet the absolute minimum standards, and are very inexperienced. By having a flat fee based model, we have an INCENTIVE to deliver the best price and the best truck to you that meets your transport needs. We typically ship cars at lower rates, and much, much faster than other online companies due to our unique business model.
OPEN AUTO TRANSPORT
Open vehicle transport is without question the most common method of vehicle shipping. The trucks that haul autos come in all shapes and sizes. There are several different types, including; 9&10 car carriers with a lower and upper deck, 4&5 car mini trailers with upper and lower decks, and finally 2&3 car haulers with only one deck. If you happen to be hauling a large van or truck, it may be that your auto has to go on a flatbed trailer with no upper deck. This is because the height of your auto is simply prohibitive for a trailer that uses an upper deck, as their simply is not enough clearance.
As the consumer, you are completely free to request a particular type of trailer if you feel that one is superior to another. In our opinion, all types of trailers if properly maintained and used according to their original purpose, are adequate for hauling your auto. However if you feel you need more protection that can be afforded by say a flatbed or a single deck trailer, than you have the option of selecting an enclosed trailer. Although more expensive by around 30% , an enclosed trailer offers maximum all around protection of your auto.
ENCLOSED AUTO TRANSPORT
Enclosed Vehicle Transport is the most protective form of auto transportation available. However, there are different types of enclosed trailers, and different types of equipment within the enclosed space.
The biggest Enclosed trailers are usually only able to haul six vehicles at a time. These are hauled with a semi tractor, and typically have an upper and lower deck.
A good amount of the enclosed division of car hauling takes place with a 2-3 car trailer and a 3500 dually pickup truck.
Lift Gates, Race Ramps, or extended metal ramps are essential to an enclosed hauler. The reason being that often these trailers are used to haul exotics such as Vipers, Corvette’s, Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s and so forth, all of which have a very low profile. The type of ramping system that the particular truck uses may be of concern to you if you are hauling a low clearance auto. Be sure to check with the trucking company to ensure they have the necessary equipment to handle your auto.
Because something like only 2% of all auto haulers on the road are enclosed units, and because they have limited space, you will pay around 30-35% more for an enclosed auto shipment on average.
SUPER CAR TRANSPORT
When it comes to shipping a supercar, there is simply no room for mistakes. One single nick or scratch could be a multi-thousand dollar mistake. The carriers that ship these must have the proper experience, equipment, straps, and knowledge necessary to ship these autos.
Insurance. Insurance can become an issue when dealing with shipping a supercar. The vast majority of carriers on the road have policies up to $250,000. A select few have cargo policies that go as high as $500,000. Once those limits are reached, you are really looking at just a minute fraction of auto haulers that may have sufficient coverage for your auto. There are however Insurance supplements that are availble online that allow you to purchase a one trip insurance rider. Freight Quote is a notable example. At the end of the day, it may simply be that you have to ship your auto with a carrier that is under-insured. And that is simply the nature of shipping supercars. If you are very concerned with Insurance requirements, please contact us for possible referrals to direct trucking companies.
Be selective, not cheap. Our recommendation when looking for a transport to haul your supercar is to be selective for the best carriers, and don’t try to be cheap. You want to attract the best and most experienced haulers on the market. Auto haulers are not all created equal.
If you have further questions as it relates to hauling supercars, feel free to contact us. Many of the founding members are prior enclosed transporters with decades of experience.
Less than truckload (LTL) shipping allows multiple shippers to share space on the same
truck while full truckload shipments typically travel on only one truck with one destination.
The National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) allocates a specific number to each product
that could be shipped. That is the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) that pairs to the
freight class best suited for the product. It’s important to include the NMFC number on the bill of
lading to reduce chances of reclassification.
