OUR HISTORY
A privately held, professionally managed transportation company, Bison Transport was established in 1969. With a network throughout Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, Bison is a leading asset-based freight solutions provider that employs over 4,000 professional drivers and staff. We proudly deliver award-winning transportation services to our valued clients throughout North America. We operate one of the largest, safest, and most modern fleets on the road today. Our investments in tractor, trailer, and container-Bison equipment are a testament to the commitment we’ve made to our customers, staff, and the industry.
Our growing asset-based fleet boasts 2,600 tractors and 9,000 trailers and containers operating throughout North America. Beyond this, we have access to over thousands of trucks through our Logistics Operations, along with container cube and priority access on rail networks across North America.
Bison USA was formed through the merger of Britton Transport and H.O. Wolding in 2022. Founded in 1980 by Dave Britton, Britton Transport started as a small truck broker service out of Grand Forks, ND that quickly opened additional facilities in Sioux Falls, ND and Des Moines, IA to support their growing midwest and eventual national expansion. H.O. Wolding dates back to 1935 when it was founded in Wisconsin by Herbert Wolding. The company remained family owned and operated as it grew into one of the largest transport companies in the upper Midwest. The shared values of these companies live on today in Bison USA.

The bill of lading (BOL) acts as an invoicing receipt in the shipping industry, and with many
motor carriers, the BOL is the contract of carriage between that motor carrier and the shipper.
It includes important information related to the shipment such as addresses, packaging type,
freight class, description of the goods and any special instructions.
There are 18 freight classes. They are determined by weight, dimensions, density, storage capability,
ease of handling, value and liability from instances like theft, damage, breakability and spoilage.
To help you determine freight class, we’ve developed a freight density calculator.
