ABOUT US
49th Freight is the result of a desire to see Alaska freight handled a little bit differently.
My name is Clyde Carey and I started this company in February of 2017. This is a picture I posted on social media the day I resigned from my job in the freight industry. A lot has happened since that day, but we still make time for pizza.
Being born and raised in Alaska, I have a passion for seeing Alaskans thrive. I offer shipping solutions to customers that others cannot. As a Landstar affiliated agency, 49th freight is able to customers access to a large network of available drivers including your local freight carriers.
By working with us, you are presented with all shipping solutions and not just options that asset-based carriers can offer by doing the work themselves. Having multiple options results in you saving time and money.

Why use 49th Freight?
Customer focused: As a small business, we truly value you as a customer. You are not just another number here. We take your business seriously and we will work hard to exceed your expectations.
Expertise: We have many successful years of experience in the logistics and transportation industry. Customers trust us to ship one pallet economically and efficiently as well as a 300,000 pound module. That’s because we have handled both plus more several times.
Agile: As a non-asset-based freight agency, we are not bound to a specific solution, lane, or carrier. The solutions that we provide comes from listening to our customers and then researching to create the best solution. We do not have a “boiler plate” offering.
TRUCKING
49th Freight is an independent Landstar Agency. This gives us access to over 10,000 Landstar Business Capacity Owners (BCO’s) and over 40,000 vetted and approved owner-operators.
As you can imagine, you have a lot of options to get your freight to where it needs to go when you have so many drivers on the road at any given moment. We utilize a web-based system to find a driver in the area that your freight needs to be picked up. 49th Freight makes contact with the driver to negotiate the terms of the move to include pricing and timing. If it works for you, we then contract the driver to make the move and provide you with tracking and updates, as needed. We work hard to make the process simple for you.
We make finding trucks simple for you. We will find the trucks for you. We do not just post your load and let the phone ring. We will actively pick up the phone and hunt down trucks for you. Contact us now to tell us what you need to move.
HEAVY HAUL
We have the experience in finding solutions to move your over sized load.
Shipments over 8’6” wide, 13’ tall, 50’ long, or are over the weight capacity limit of the truck hauling the load, are considered to be heavy haul moves. These moves require great attention to detail given the need for special permits, possibly pilot vehicles, or police escort.
The majority of moves through 49th Freight are heavy haul moves and it is where we really excel. We can credit the opportunity for these experiences to the thriving oil and construction industry in Alaska.
Alaska has a vast road system with numerous climate challenges. Take advantage of everything we’ve learned by contacting us to discuss your heavy haul move.
LESS THAN TRUCKLOAD (LTL)
Less-than-truckload (LTL) freight is simply freight that is 4-pallets or less and 10,000 pounds or less. This is not to say that all freight in those quantities and weights are LTL because the linear feet also matters.
LTL “volume” freight is freight that is between 10 and 30 feet or between 10,000-30,000 pounds.
49th Freight is well versed in how to efficiently move your LTL freight. Contact us today so we can provide you with options to move your freight within your timeline and budget.
As a Landstar Agency we have business relationships with all of the major LTL carriers. We have a web-based system that gives us pricing instantly. This allows us to provide you with a quote very quickly.
FTL stands for Full Truckload. A shipment that is over 10,000lb or takes up an entire truck by
itself is considered Full Truckload. One of the main characteristic of an FTL Services is that it
will take your shipment on a long haul, making one trip from point A to Point B without transferring
the cargo.
LTL stands for Less Than Truckload. If you have 200 pounds of freight to transport, you’ve got an LTL
shipment. It takes just a section of the truck and the cargo is safely consolidated with other shipments
that may be picked up and distributed in the same area.
Adjustments can be costly, but can mostly be avoided with accurate information.
Common adjustments occur around oversized items (more than 12 feet in length), lift-gates,
limited delivery access, residential fees, reclassifications and changes to the bill of lading.
