It started in 1971, when Richard Johanson left his managing position with the California Trucking Exchange. With the support of his wife Althea, loyal colleagues, and customers, JTS was launched on August 9, 1971.

Leveraging his decades of experience, Richard was intent on setting his own high standards of service in the JTS business model, and the company soon thrived under his leadership.

The promise of ethical personal and company conduct remains intact today as the basis of JTS’ business practices. It also extends to the local communities in our regional offices.

Richard’s son, Larry Johanson, joined JTS in 1972, learning the business from the ground up, then expanding their freight base from dry to perishable goods. When Richard retired in 1991, Larry was named the new President/CEO and still holds that position today.

With 30 years as the company’s leader, Larry credits JTS’ success to the loyal executive team with which he is proud to serve – many with over 30 years of tenure this year:

Perishable — Our Perishable division understands your shelf life requirements. Since 1971, our team has been handling temperature-sensitive goods using 53-foot temperature-controlled trailers and food grade tankers.

Non-Perishable — Our Non-Perishable division offers several trailer size options, including 53-foot dry vans, flat beds, step decks, and curtain side trailers.

LTL Common Carrier Service: For shipments of one to 14 pallets, leverage JTS’ buying power. We will customize an LTL program using multiple, reliable carrier options to streamline your LTL process. We handle all negotiations, pick-up scheduling, service monitoring and invoice auditing, cross-docking and pool distribution.

LTL Consolidation: We can pool your Non-Perishable freight with compatible freight of our many customers. We coordinate pickup and delivery schedules so your freight is handled at a minimum, generally only at the original loading and unloading site. This option minimizes the risk of damage to more fragile freight as it’s handled fewer times in transit.

Temp-Controlled LTL Solutions (Heated, Cooled and Frozen): You receive a login to our cloud-based Arriviture® technology, for access to customized rates. Simply enter the weight, destination and origination zip codes and get an instant quote on your desktop! Rates are priced to your account, from any point to any point in the U.S. with delivery nationwide. Scheduled pickup dates are available for each metro area so you can plan shipments with ease.

Drayage — The movement of freight between warehouses, distribution centers and container yards is facilitated by our network of carriers operating in and out of all major U.S. ports and rail ramps. We offer live load/unload services along with drop and pick options in certain locations. JTS International is experienced in the handling of overweight and hazmat cargo as well.

We also provide transloading and cross-docking services. This way, our clients with multimodal needs can work with only one provider from the beginning of their transport move to the very end. We work closely with our domestic Truckload and LTL counterparts so that your cargo keeps moving and is delivered in a timely manner – truly offering your company a “one-stop-shop”.
