We are a family owned and operated moving and storage company. The McGehee family has been proving superior moving services since 1938. Now owned by Scott & Clay McGehee, Mississippi Van Lines carries on the traditions of quality service, performed by our own employees, at a reasonable price.

Local moves are performed at an hourly rate that is determined by the size of the crew. The time starts when the crew arrives at your residence and is stopped when the job is completed. We then add 1/2 hour (Jackson metropolitan area moves) travel time to the total time. We have a 4 hour minimum on all local moves.

All rates include the truck, manpower and equipment (dollies, pads, etc.) necessary to complete your move. If you need packing for your shipment, the same hourly rates apply and we charge for the packing materials actually used.

Any shipment that crosses state lines is an Interstate move. Rates for interstate moves are regulated by the Federal Motor Safety Administration and set by the individual carriers.

Mississippi Van Lines will be happy to provide you with a free, no obligation, in home estimate on your interstate move. We offer two types of pricing on interstate moves, binding and non-binding prices.

Non-Binding Prices-This pricing option is designed for the shipper who is not sure exactly what they will be moving at the time of the in home estimate. We rate the actual services performed a the tariff rates and apply the discount that you were given at the time of the estimate. The advantage of this type of pricing is that you can change your mind about what you want to move at the last minute.

Binding Prices-This option is designed for the shipper who knows exactly what services they want and exactly what is going to be moved. Our salesperson will walk through your home to determine the packing and weight for your shipment. The prices quoted at the time of the estimate is exactly what you will pay for your move. The only thing that can effect Binding Prices are destination charges, such as long carries or shuttles that we don’t know about at the time of the estimate.

Almost all of the prices we give on Interstate or Intrastate moves are binding.

For those people who need to delay delivery of their shipment, Mississippi Van Lines offers containerized storage. Your goods will be unloaded from our truck and put into large wooden containers inside of our building. The provides you with much better security than Mini-Storage facilities and allows us to continue your valuation coverage, since we retain controls of your shipment.

When your shipment is unloaded at the warehouse, your furniture is wrapped in padded paper and placed in those large wooden containers. Each crate is sealed, marked with your name and shipment ID and then stacked in our warehouse. There is a warehouse handling fee for this service. The warehouse handling fee covers your shipment both when it comes into the warehouse and when it is handled out.

Q How is the cost of my shipment calculated?

If you are moving to a different state, the charges will be based on the weight of your
shipment and mileage—these are referred to as the transportation charges.
There are a variety of different moving charges that can potentially appear on your estimate,
so be sure to ask your relocation specialist to explain each charge for you.
Some additional charges that may appear include packing, crating, valuation or coverage,
bulky article charge (for oversized items), and extra labor. Again, please be certain you
fully understand these charges so that you can accurately compare the estimates you receive.

Q What is an order for service?

All movers are required to prepare an order for service before they transport your shipment.
The order for service provides you with written confirmation of the moving services that you
requested to be performed in conjunction with your shipment. It also lists the agreed upon
dates for the pickup and delivery of your shipment and amount of valuation that you requested,
along with any special services that you ordered.
It also features a place and telephone number where the mover can contact you during the move.

Additionally, the order for service shows the charges that you will be assessed for your
household move or corporate relocation. If you are moving under a non-binding estimate,
the order for service will indicate the amount of the estimated non-binding charges,
the method of payment for the charges and, in cases where the actual charges exceed the
non-binding estimate, the maximum amount that you are required to pay at the time of delivery
in order to obtain possession of your shipment (you will have 30 days following delivery to
pay the balance of the charges due). If you are moving under a binding estimate,
the order for service will show the charges that you will be required to pay at delivery,
based on the binding estimate and the terms of payment. You and your mover must sign the
order for service.
