A Smooth Move

It all began with the desire to help our community. In 2006, A Smooth Move was founded by Brian and Kimberly Alwin to fulfill a community need–to offer moving services centered around the needs of older adults.

Since then, A Smooth Move has faithfully served Rochester, MN with a caring approach and its attention to detail. Our #1 goal is to make moving easy for older adults. That is why we provide services you won’t find with a standard moving company.

We offer packing and transportation services, decluttering, cleaning, sorting & downsizing, furniture setup, and post-move services. We will even install floor and door jamb protectors. Because each client is different, your move can be customized according to the services you need.

As of 2020 we now serve the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

A Smooth Move helps families during moves of loved ones with dementia. We have specialized training in this field. Families can confidently take their loved one out for the day trusting we will work our magic, packing critical items and quickly setting up the new secure memory unit in a familiar manner. Our sensitive team supports the client and their family with this extremely difficult transition with respect and understanding.

Our expert handling within this area is inspired by co-owner Kimberly’s own experiences caring for a loved one with dementia. The knowledge we bring is a reflection of how we care for our own family members with these struggles.

Transport items for sale on Facebook Marketplace, auction, or consignment
Get your home ready for sale
When we prepare to downsize, we use green- or red-colored stickers to easily designate “keep” and “donate/toss” items, which leaves no room for confusion or misplaced items. When we sort, we also take care to go through items one-by-one to assure everything has been accounted for and nothing is hidden or missed. We are truly meticulous with our work and do our utmost to make your move a smooth move.

When was the last time you moved? Most of our clients haven’t moved in 40 years or more. When it comes to the needs of older adults, A Smooth Move specializes in taking care of the details from start to finish. As a full-service mover, we provide:

Packing services
Careful transportation of your belongings
Unloading and placing belongings where you direct
Unpacking and organizing your new home
We even hang pictures, make the beds, and set the clocks. We also help assemble furniture and install door jambs and other features. Once we are finished, we remove all packing materials and trash from your new home. The goal is for you to be sleeping at your new location that very night.

We offer packing and unpacking services that pay special attention to the needs of older adults. We keep track of belongings, carefully sort them, and pack them up safely and securely as part of our detail-oriented process.

We also offer unpacking services to our clients. We will help unload, unpack, place, and tidy as directed by our clients. We will even take care of the smaller things such as setting clocks. Once we are finished unpacking, we remove any excess trash and moving supplies so there’s no post-move mess. A Smooth Move can help make your home liveable from day one.
