Our History
In 1959 Allen Taylor started a small moving company in Burlington that saw rapid growth in a short period of time. In 2002 Allen decided to retire and sold the business to his sons Rick and Russ. By that time Taylor Moving and Storage had become a Burlington landmark with its trademark Taylor truck perched high on the roof for all to see.
When they purchased the company both Rick and Russ knew the business inside and out, having grown up working alongside their father and the other members of the Taylor team. In fact, Allen wanted to make sure his boys understood every aspect of the business so both Rick and Russ worked as packers, movers, and drivers.
Our Success
Rick and Russ attribute their success to a number of factors; throughout the years Taylor Moving and Storage have evolved and refined their processes to ensure their clients a service that can effectively move them across the street or around the world.
The heart of the Taylor Moving process is their focus on customer service and their dedication to quality. Further to this a company-wide spirit of philanthropy thrives and both national and local charities have been beneficiaries.
However, the main reason they feel the company has been able to succeed despite recessions, unpredictable housing markets and stiff competition is their employees.
“We understand that without our team, Taylor Moving and Storage couldn’t have become what it is today. We hire people from this community and we take care of them. In turn, we have a really loyal and hardworking group, from the front office right through to the drivers, who always go above and beyond for our clients,” said Russ Taylor. “Taylor Moving has always looked after the people who work here. It’s an element of our company that hasn’t changed in 50 years.”
Rick and Russ Taylor are intent on ensuring the company their father started so many years ago continues to succeed.
What is Rick and Russ Taylor’s formula for success? “Provide a high-quality service at a competitive rate and people will choose you time and again,” they explained. “We’ve had relationships with many of our clients over decades. Taylor Moving and Storage is one of the top 5 corporate movers in Canada, and we continue to grow thanks to our loyal clients.”
Local Moving Services
The start of a successful local move is the in-home meeting between our clients and the Taylor Moving Consultant.
Our moving consultant will review your packing requirements, note any special items that may need special handling, any storage needs and will take a complete inventory of the goods you wish to move. From this, we are able to create an accurate moving estimate that not only outlines costs but will be the basis for your moving plan. Items like ensuring the correct amount of people, truck sizes, days needed, and special requirements are noted to ‘Taylorize’ your local move.
Many of our customers choose to do their own packing. Taylor’s Exclusive Box Program is an enormous value-added service our customers enjoy.
On moving day, your Taylor team looks after the rest. Floor runners are laid throughout the house. Items like sofas are plastic wrapped to ensure they are kept clean. Everything we take apart, we put back together. All furniture is placed in the correct room so that it feels like your new home is indeed a home!
Cross-Border Moving
Taylor Moving does more cross-border moves than any mover in Southern Ontario. Indeed, at a time when other companies are leaving this service line, we continue to grow our cross-border service. No other company has as many units dedicated to cross-border moving as Taylor Moving and Storage.
A successful cross-border move starts with professional consultants. Taylor assigns a move coordinator to you to move who is an expert in the cross-border process. As your single point of contact, our coordinators will set up all dates and ensure services like packing, crating, auto haulers and guaranteed transit times are in place on your behalf.
They are also experts in the customs process and will guide you through the process from start to finish, acquiring all the documents and forms to make the clearing of customs a smooth and easy process.
Taylor Moving is the only mover in Ontario that holds its USA Department of Transportation (DOT) licenses directly. This allows us to service your move using our own trucks and crews (no subcontracting to others) resulting in a consistently high level of quality with greatly reduced transit times.

If you are moving to a different state, the charges will be based on the weight of your
shipment and mileage—these are referred to as the transportation charges.
There are a variety of different moving charges that can potentially appear on your estimate,
so be sure to ask your relocation specialist to explain each charge for you.
Some additional charges that may appear include packing, crating, valuation or coverage,
bulky article charge (for oversized items), and extra labor. Again, please be certain you
fully understand these charges so that you can accurately compare the estimates you receive.
All movers are required to prepare an order for service before they transport your shipment.
The order for service provides you with written confirmation of the moving services that you
requested to be performed in conjunction with your shipment. It also lists the agreed upon
dates for the pickup and delivery of your shipment and amount of valuation that you requested,
along with any special services that you ordered.
It also features a place and telephone number where the mover can contact you during the move.
Additionally, the order for service shows the charges that you will be assessed for your
household move or corporate relocation. If you are moving under a non-binding estimate,
the order for service will indicate the amount of the estimated non-binding charges,
the method of payment for the charges and, in cases where the actual charges exceed the
non-binding estimate, the maximum amount that you are required to pay at the time of delivery
in order to obtain possession of your shipment (you will have 30 days following delivery to
pay the balance of the charges due). If you are moving under a binding estimate,
the order for service will show the charges that you will be required to pay at delivery,
based on the binding estimate and the terms of payment. You and your mover must sign the
order for service.
